- This is a multi-part question. Please create a visual post for your blog on a topic specific to your business and answer the questions below. This involves critical thinking. What is important to your business and visitors? The image must be the focal point of the post telling the story or conveying a point. You may include multiple images. The goal is to visually convey a message with minimal text. Please pay attention to what was discussed in class. Ensure that you include a link to the blog post in your answer. Do not forget that this needs to be included in your hardcopy. I am marking what you hand in with your hardcopy but also need to see the digital version on your blog. If it is not online for me to view (in addition to the hardcopy), I cannot mark this question. (4 Marks)
At EcoGelX we prioritize sustainability at every single step of the way!
- Why did you choose the specific image(s)? (3 Marks)
For my visual blog post, I put together a graphic that tells the story of the “EcoGelX Life Cycle” using simple images instead of a lot of text. I focused on three main images with just a couple of words underneath each to keep it clear and easy to follow. The first image—a green leaf—represents sustainable sourcing. The second, a pink polish bottle next to a gear, stands for eco-friendly production. The third, a recycling symbol, shows the bottle return and recycling program. I also added arrows between each image to make it more obvious that it’s a cycle, and I included a heading with my logo to help reinforce brand recognition.
To start off this visual, I immediately chose to incorporate a green leaf because it is a universally recognized symbol of sustainability. This aligns with EcoGelX’s brand identity and commitment to sustainability. The leaf immediately grabs attention with its bright colour and provides an eco-friendly look, making it an effective way to visually represent my brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing. Additionally, the colour green is strongly associated with nature, growth, and environmental consciousness, reinforcing the brand’s sustainability efforts even more. As discussed in class, “Visuals cause a faster and stronger reaction than words” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 14). So using a bright green leaf to show sustainability will be much more effective than if I only used text to show this.
The pink polish bottle with the gear reinforces the idea that EcoGelX is committed to eco-conscious practices throughout the entire production process, not just in sourcing or the recycling program. By displaying each step of the EcoGelX “life cycle,” this visual shows that my brand prioritizes sustainability through every process of creation. The gear is beneficial to appeal to consumers who value both sustainability and product quality. According to a statistic in class, “Visuals have been found to improve learning by up to 400 percent.” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 11) So by combining these two elements, the image helps easily show the viewer what the image is saying by connecting environmental responsibility and production.
For the final step in the “life cycle,” I chose a simple yet powerful image, the recycling symbol, to reinforce EcoGelX’s long-term commitment to sustainability. This visual highlights my brand’s responsibility goes beyond production and sales, extending to its bottle return program. As discussed in class, “We can get the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10 of a second.” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 11). By using the universally recognized recycling symbol, the message is instantly clear, making it far more effective than words alone. Beyond just communicating sustainability, this image also encourages customer participation, making them feel like an active part of the solution. When they purchase an EcoGelX polish, they know their empty bottles won’t just end up in a landfill but they’ll be part of a larger movement toward environmental responsibility through EcoGelX’s brand’s recycling program. Overall, this image effectively conveys the final step in the EcoGelX Life Cycle , ensuring that bottles are not just used but also properly recycled.
- Explain in detail why the image(s) was beneficial for the post. (3 Marks)
The green leaf is beneficial because it effectively communicates the first stage of the EcoGelX Life Cycle without needing excessive text. As discussed in class, “Visuals help make sense out of content and direct attention” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 5). So making the bright green leaf the beginning of the “life cycle” helps to entice the viewer and provides direction to what this post is about. It establishes a strong visual connection to sustainability, making it easy for viewers to grasp the message at a glance. This is beneficial for engaging eco-conscious consumers who prioritize ethically sourced products.
The pink polish bottle alongside the gear reinforces that EcoGelX is committed to eco-conscious practices throughout the entire production process—not just in sourcing or recycling. By visually representing each step of the EcoGelX “life cycle,” this graphic highlights the brand’s dedication to sustainability at every stage. The gear is particularly effective in appealing to consumers who value both environmental responsibility and high-quality products. As noted in class, “Visuals have been found to improve learning by up to 400 percent.” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 11). By combining these two elements, the image clearly communicates sustainability and production, making the message easy to understand without a bunch of unnecessary and long text.
The recycling symbol is beneficial for the blog because it reinforces the brand’s long-term commitment to sustainability once again. As highlighted in class, “40 percent of consumers respond better to visual information” (Briscoe, W9 – C – Importance of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 16). By incorporating a well-recognized recycling symbol, the blog ensures that EcoGelX’s sustainability message is processed quickly and effectively. Instead of relying solely on text to explain the bottle return program, this visual instantly conveys the brand’s environmental efforts, making it easier for consumers to engage with and remember. Beyond just recognition, the recycling symbol also encourages customer action. It reinforces the idea that participating in the bottle return program isn’t just about disposing of an empty product—it’s about contributing to a larger environmental initiative. This sense of involvement strengthens brand loyalty and encourages repeat purchases from environmentally conscious consumers who value companies that take tangible steps toward reducing waste.
